It is also my honor to call him among my best of friends. David and I met a handful of years ago. In that time, I’ve been right there by his side when he married his awesome wife Julie and as his children Abigail, Honor and Ty were born. I was also there when his beautiful father passed. You just don’t find friends like this very often in life.

David, thanks for letting me tag along as an extra pair of hands for you and ESPN. I hope you don’t mind my sharing your family with my audience, but when you respect and love someone as much as I do you and your family, I just gotta share. Love you, bro.

I’m at Dolce Vita last night with my friend, Jen. We’re enjoying a glass of wine and people watching; a great pastime in NoDa. Anyhoo, after chatting at length about several books she’s been reading (Shades of Grey, being her latest), we leave. Walking back to her place, I mention that my friend  James Langteaux is leaving town soon and how much I’ll miss him, even though we’ve only really become recent friends. I continue by adding how bummed I was that I wouldn’t be able to see him before he left.

At that very moment, around the corner comes James, carrying an enormous pile of things. I shout to him. Given that it’s dark and he can’t see me, he shouts back, “Who is that?” Long story shorter: he invites us in and we spend the next little while chatting about his returning to home and about his new book.

If you’re going to have a title, HAVE A TITLE

Available on AMAZON, GCWD is a bold book. It’s provocative. And I’ll add, “A Full Frontal Expose on God and Gays.” My words; not his PR.

The enthusiasm James feels for this book is palpable. But then, James is always full of passion. He exudes it. His presence effects people. And so will this book.

Leave it to James to do something that nobody else ever has. That is what I admire most about him.

A FIRST in gay and Christian publishing

According to Amazon:

Will the Christian community be up in arms about some of the subject matter? Sure. How about the gay community? Some will–some won’t. Will the book be appreciated for it’s brazen message? I hope so.

My point is this: I applaud James for his bravery. I encourage James to live boldly. I hope for James’ success. And I’m quite confident that James is going to be just fine.

God Hates Fags and other bedtime Bible stories

That’s the original title. And for my money, one you can sink your teeth into. I’ve just started the book, not because I’m gay–not that there’s anything wrong with that, but because I want to understand and appreciate another man’s journey. More importantly, I want to see what makes James tick. And for those of you who have met him, I think you want to do the same.

Will it be for everyone? Doubtful. But then, those with open and inquisitive minds may get enlightened, after a fashion. As for me: I’m in the corner of anyone who tells it like it is; especially one who will offer Straight Talk on Fanatics, fags and the God Who Loves Us All.

I’m glad we coincidentally saw each other last night before you left. I’m glad we’re friends and I wish you the very best.
